I've been tagged.......watch out you're next!

Kayla tagged me. Guess its better than getting a kick me sign on my backside.

7 Random Facts About Me tag:

  1. I'm not a chocolate freak. Would rather have unchocolated things like golden oreos or my newly refound favorite reece's pieces
  2. I hate carpeting. I hate anything I really can't "clean" like scrub, hose off or throw in the washer clean. Mattresses too. bluck
  3. I love bunnies and plants. Inside and out. Even though the two don't usually mesh well.
  4. I am a pretty laid back person, few things bug me but seeing Christmas typed CHRISTmas does. I know what Christmas is about thank you.
  5. I want a new couch for Christmas.
  6. I am singlehandedly redoing/fixing up our house one room at a time.
  7. I have immense guilt right now for sitting here instead of cooking and cleaning.

The Day After

I have decided to rename my home made candy bars. These are a homemade version of the Take 5 candy bars. They are super yummy. They are infact WONDERFUL. To make them you need pretzels that are hatched. Usually I use square ones with hatches but I found these at the amish store so I used them. On top of the pretzel you add a little bit of crunchy peanut butter. Then either melt some caramels (same as for caramel apples) or I found some vanilla caramel loaf at the amish store. It was softer so I was able to roll it out and cut it. So you add your caramel layer, then you can cover it in melted chocolate chips, melted milk chocolate coating, melted almond bark........whatever. And voila........wunderbars. (german for wonderful which is pronounced with a v and ends in a bar.....replaces the old v bar name) Here's a step by step picture of them.

I made them along with clear popcorn balls. I was highly disgusted with myself. Here I am all proud of my well stocked pantry and I couldn't find any corn syrup. I was spending way too much time looking for a recipe that didnt call for corn syrup. So I just went to walmart and bought some. I know there must be a way to make pop corn balls without the corn syrup. If you find one, please let me know.

We've always said she was a little stinker! My kids decided to forgo the costumes and begging for candy this year. Out of all the holidays Halloween is my least favorite. I am quite a big chicken. I never used to like all the scary stuff even as a kid. I was very happy to see no man hanging out of my neighbor's tree this year. A few years ago she had a decoration that was a man hanging from the neck out of her tree. My kids told her how scary that was for them and she took it down.
Last night, we made treats and they watched a couple Daddy approved scary movies and passed out candy to the neighborhood kids. I was a little leary about the kids passing out candy but dh thought it was a good idea (the whole giving thing) so I let him decide. I thought they would feel left out once their friends came around but they really had a blast. Maybe it was because they could tell their friends were all cold, and they themselves had a nice warm house and movie and candy. I also figured maybe they would be too into the movie to pass out candy or soon loose interest but yet again they proved me wrong. They were actually sad when the kids stopped coming. They have been playing trick or treat this morning with buckets and legos ROFL knocking on each other's bedrooms doors.
I am happy to report no one woke up screaming from a nightmare or sick from the candy. Those are my two halloween goals. I think all and all it was a good night. The only complaint I heard was the bickering about who's turn it was next to give candy. Such good kids. I Its kind of funny, besides the passing out the candy, we really didnt do anything we wouldn't do on any given night. But don't tell the kids that. That's a Mom's secret.

If I don't get to blog for the rest of the week you will know I am up to my armpits in apples and bathrooms! Both have to be taken care of (one canned and one painted and repaired) and I am the one to do it. If nothing else I should sleep good the rest of the week!

Here's a weeks worth of dish clothes. I love this pattern. Its my friend Princess Nimble-Thimble's pattern.
I am using them for christmas presents along with pot holders, hanging towels/towel rings, and hot pads. The potpourri one on the lower left has been washed and dried. So you see they don't even shrink up (unlike the one and only knitted dishcloth I made) The potpourri is my favorite. But I think they all look nice.

In other news damutt scratched A's face pretty good today. I told her she will not be scared for life. He even got inside her bottom eye lid but managed to miss her eye ball. We said many thank you prayers over that! Only a couple things in this world I am squeamish about: broken eye balls and woman parts surgeries. Turn my stomach. Blah!

Looking on my iGoogle page for the joke of the day I found this:

Que dit un escargot lorsqu'il est sur le dos d'une tortue ?

- YYYYAAAAAOOOUUUUUHHHHH !!!!!!!

Is it a joke cause its in french? This became a research project. So I used Google Translate
Here is what I got:

What does a snail when it is on the back of a turtle?

- YYYYAAAAAOOOUUUUUHHHHH !!!!!!!

OH YEAH THAT'S MUCH FUNNIER ROFL

So I googled the joke. NOW ITS FUNNY!!!!! What did I ever do without Google?

My Jacob O Lantern

I thought I was done with my blog for the day. Until Jacob came out of the bedroom looking like this.
I have to figure out something safe to put in his mouth for a candle but I think we all know what Jacob will be dressed up as for Halloween.

Squirrel Season

Yesterday was a cloudy kinda rainy day and it was grocery day to boot. In my neck of the woods lots of people find nothing better to do on a rainy Saturday then head out to the Amish stores and get in my way. ROFL That wasn't very nice was it but its true. How long can you look at a shelf of dark brown sugar? Move on........move on. Now I know why the Amish don't shop at the Amish stores on Saturday! But with one car 1/2 dead I take the wheels when I can get them.
Dh went out hunting yesterday at 4 am. Came home empty handed (well he did have a slight fever from sitting in the tree in the rain) so he took a nice nap while I was shopping. MIL had even stopped by and kidnapped all the kids (she left laughing......don't know if that was a good laugh or a bad one) So I shopped on my own, well besides the sea of "english" in my way.
At one point I came out of the walk in cooler with 7 dozen eggs stacked up under my chin. A nice man held the door for me, then asked, "do you have any honey comb??" I kindly replied I didn't work there but yes they do right down there. ROFL Must have been the blue short sleeve shirt that threw him. Its common these days for people to buy 7 dozen eggs at a time isn't it? The Amish women are much more organized. They push around carts to stack shelves. I doubt I would ever see one of them with 7 dozen eggs stacked under their chiny chin chin.
I found some great buys while I was out. I got a clothes rack for $17 from the bang and dent store. The Amish man asked me how much I thought I would pay for something like that. I told him I had been pricing them and couldn't find a good one like this for less than $50. If it was his nature to be upset I think he would have been, but he just laughed and said, "$50? We could have charged you $25" I shook my head yes said yup and away I went
I got some hazelnut international coffee creamer. Individual cups like you get at a restaurant for 75c for a 24 count box. I bought 4. I just poured a couple in my coffee while sitting here at the computer. Wish they came with stir sticks :-s
I went to my local Fareway to pick up a whole pork loin for $1.79/lb and THOUGHT I found a GREAT deal on dry milk for $5.64. I don't know where those boxes lived but NOT where they were. It was $18! I am contemplating taking it back. Aldi's has gone up a lot (from $7.99 to $12.99) but I would still have money left over after returing the milk made of gold and going to Aldi's for a box of the stuff I usually get. I will make sure to take the manager over and show him how I was deceived when I return it. I find this happens a lot here, where no one prices anything individually. Its all on little papers on the shelf fronts. In Michigan where my sister lives, they price EVERYTHING individually. I know it takes some work on the stockers part, but makes it easier on the poor illiterate customer (me) I'm famous for getting home with "not what I wanted" I picked dh up a dark snickers bar ....got home.......it wasn't dark. Some one before me had picked up a regular snickers and then decided on a dark and left the regular in the dark box. It was a good thing I had also picked him up a Mounds. Saved my butt on that one. But who will eat the regular snickers I wonder?
So I spent twice what I started out wanting to spend yesterday BUT my cupboards are once again FULL. I can't help it. I get a little squirrelly in the fall. I love to sit back and know my family is well taken care of. We have everything we need. The Lord provides. Of course me spending twice as much as planned makes dh a little squirrelly too. But the Lord protects too hee hee hee Budget? Smudget. It will really make it easier now. All I have to do is replace what we eat. Glad my pantry is back on track. All we need now is one more good fishing trip, 3 deer and a mess of squirrels and we can hunker down and make it through the winter.
